Rewards and commission
Spendstream is not only a technical API. Every gift card sale and every affiliate purchase moves money, and how that money is shared affects your revenue and your customers’ rewards. This page explains what you can see in the API, and what to confirm with Spendstream, so that your product, finance and support teams can plan around it.
What you see in the API
Your commercial terms are agreed with Spendstream and held on your publisher record. The terms themselves are not published in this documentation. In transaction and offer responses you will see two commission fields:
Field | What it tells you |
| The commission attributable to you, the publisher. |
| Any processing fee applied to the transaction. |
Ask your Spendstream contact how these figures apply to your account before you design customer-facing messages. Do not show your own commission to end users. Show only the reward that the customer earns.
Choosing a reward type
You choose what your customers earn. Typical choices are site credit, ride credit, free entries into a competition, or cashback. The reward type is a setting on your publisher account. It changes how you present the reward, not how your commission is calculated.
Amounts can change
Affiliate transaction values are reported by the affiliate networks. A transaction can be pending when first reported, and its value or status can change before it is approved. Do not pay out or promise a final reward until the transaction is final. See Reconciliation.
